A new edition of *SKURA is now available.

All 20 albums – 93 tracks, over 12 hours of music – are now available as high quality 320kbps MP3′s on a single DVD-R. The silkscreened disc comes in a handmade, 350gsm textured-card wallet, and is accompanied by a 122-page book containing a full discography, as well as poem fragments, liner notes, and three essays; one by myself, and one by The Wire’s Tony Herrington and Mojo’s Andrew Male.

This new edition is limited to 100 signed and numbered copies, and is priced at £50, which equates to just £2.50 per album.

Uncovered Old Editions

I’ve created a Discogs page for archival editions, as well as stock I have of my releases with other labels. I’ll add to it gradually as I go through the many boxes of material that I’ve finally unearthed from storage.

First up is an edition of Crow Autumn (Part One), released on the now-defunct First Person label in 2008. Apart from its value as an artefact, the music itself on this edition is subtly different from the currently available SRL09 via Sustain-Release.

I have a few copies of this one, and will re-list, as they sell. Alternatively, you can contact me directly.

I also have some copies of the new Preservation CD edition of Marking Time, and various vinyl releases (I’ll add the latter once I’ve got some stock of vinyl mailers).

Landings at the Douglas Hyde Gallery

Landings will be installed in Gallery 2 of The Douglas Hyde Gallery, Trinity College, Dublin, July 22nd – August 29th. Visitors can listen to ‘Landings’ on headphones and read from copies of the book. Also on display are five new text works that I have produced specifically for the exhibition, exploring the linguistic and toponymic heritage of the Lancashire landscape.

In Gallery 1 is an exhibition entitled Interlude (Aspects of Irish landscape painting), and there is also a beautiful display of books published by the gallery, which is worth the visit in its own right. I’ll be there on the opening night, between 6 and 7.30pm, on July 21st.

Landings is the culmination of nearly half a decade spent exploring and remapping Anglezarke, on the West Pennine Moors of northern England. Over the course of its pages Landings interwines the artist’s own narrative with that of the landscape – its topography, history and place-names.

This Third Edition significantly expands on the previously published text, adding new writing from 2009-2011 as well as further research into the toponymic and linguistic heritage of the landscape.

To celebrate its publication, a new 35-minute album has been produced which reworks Rapture – a pivotal recording from the second Landings album. All three albums in the Landings Series are now available together, as a high-quality, digital download:

*SKURA is a 20-disc collection presented in a beautiful, hand-crafted ash box with sliding glass panel. It gathers together my complete works to date – including all previously out-of-print editions published between 2005 and 2010. The collection is completed by a new album, *SKURA, which comprises nearly 60 minutes of new and unreleased recordings.

Accompanying the box is an 88-page hand-sewn book, printed on laid paper with a deckled finish, and covered with 225gsm Somerset card. The book contains the now-customary word-lists and poem fragments, as well as a detailed discography and explanatory notes.

Wolf Notes was originally published on the 8th of December, 2010, in a special Folio Edition, comprising a 46-page book of poetry and a 34-page glossary – each printed on delicate laid paper, hand-sewn and wrapped in fine cloth. Each edition also included a phial of specially prepared, hand-mixed incense made from birch leaves, yarrow, wild grasses and a selection of resins. (This edition, limited to just 44 individualised copies, is now sold out.)

Inventions for Radio 1964 & The Clearing

The Charles Linehan Company will be presenting two new pieces in London at the end of this month.

Inventions for Radio 1964 is a disturbing and beautiful piece performed by Ben Ash and Rachel Lopez de la Nieta to a tape-collage score by electronic music pioneer Delia Derbyshire.

The Clearing is compelling and hypnotic piece performed by four dancers to a specially commissioned score by myself. I’ll be performing it live each night along with Autumn Richardson, Catherine Pollard (cello), Junghee Keum (viola) and John Chantler (percussion).

Music & Migration

I recently contributed a track to the “Music & Migration” project, run by Martin Holm, Glen Johnson & David Sheppard. The album is produced in aid of BirdLife International and features pieces from artists as diverse as Vashti Bunyan, Xela and Leyland Kirby. Fittingly, given the theme of the album, the track I’ve contributed is Carousell’s “Black Swallow”.

Bonus Disc ~ Artwork

The new Tompkins Square edition of “Crow Autumn” is available through Sustain-Release with an extremely limited bonus disc. I’ve taken the liberty of coming up with some new packaging for this release. The customary coverband is actually affixed to the CD enclosure, with one end tucked into a fold.

The resulting package has an extremely delicate – almost origami – feel to it. I might end up using this method to present all my Sustain-Release Standard Editions, as it allows me to use lighter weights of paper, which fold better, and create a definite sense of ritual in their unwrapping…

This was originally intended as a collaborative piece between myself and Agitated Radio Pilot, back in 2006/7. In the end a small portion of it was used as the intro to “Earthfasts”, on his “World Winding Down” album. Here is my contribution in its entirety, segued into some new string arrangements.

Saddleback ~ Gerroa Thursday
This remix was my contribution to the reissue of Saddleback’s “Everything’s A Love Letter” album, entitled “Everything’s Open To Interpretation”. Many thanks to Andrew Khedoori at Preservation and Tony Dupé for allowing me to release this piece.

Heidika ~ Limn (Original Version)
A previously unreleased, improvised sketch for mandolin and concertina. The cracking sound is a hailstorm, which happened quite spontaneously during the recording…

Richard Skelton ~ The Shape Leaves (Early Version)
This ‘Landings’ recording cropped up as “Untitled by Richard Skelton” on Valerio Cosi’s ‘Dreamsheep’ compilation. It’s actually an early version of “The Shape Leaves”, the last song on “Landings”, released by Type Recordings in January 2010.

Heidika ~ Limn (Reworked)
A reworking of “Limn” – this version was released on the Tursa/Kaparte album “With Friends Like These…”.

Machinefabriek & Richard Skelton ~ Daas
A collaboration between myself and Rutger Zuydervelt. This piece also appears on Rutger’s own album of the same name. Apparently “Daas” is a dutch word that describes “feeling light in the head or dreamy”. Many thanks to Rutger for allowing me to release it.

Please note, the bonus disc is only available in a numbered edition of 100, packaged with “Crow Autumn” on CD/LP, and will not be available separately.
