The drawings featured in this volume of LINTEL were made on the Suffolk coast in December 2013, during heavy tidal surges – the most violent for over half a century. Towns and villages all along the coast received flood warnings, and many were prepared for evacuation. Land around the mouth of the Alde was inundated with sea water – defences were breached, reed-beds were flattened and fields were flooded. There were also reports that some farm animals had died.
